New York Boutique Hotels: The Greenwich
The Greenwich Hotel is located in one of New York City’s most desirable neighborhoods, Tribeca, the Triangle Beneath Canal Street, at the corner of Greenwich and North Moore Street. A few blocks south of Soho, a few blocks north of the World Trade Center area, and just one block from the Hudson River Park.
The hotel opened in 2008 and was conceived by Ira Drukier and Robert De Niro along with their partners, Richard Born and Raphael De Niro. Following the devastation of 9/11, Robert De Niro established the Tribeca Film Festival to help revitalize the area, and felt a hotel was needed.
The design of the hotel was intended to give the appearance of a home which has evolved over many years using repurposed materials and different design elements. Created with high regard for comfort and hand-crafted beauty featuring 88 rooms, of which, no two are alike.
The Greenwich Hotel has thirteen suites, of which, feature two duplex Penthouses along with a Penthouse that sits atop the hotel, which was designed by interior designer and art dealer, Axel Vervoordt.
Locanda Verde, created by Andrew Carmellini, a James Beard award-winning chef, has been adopted as a favorite amongst their neighbors.
The restaurant is a casual neighborhood Italian Inn serving Chef Carmellini’s riffs on Italian cooking. Additionally, they have Shibui Spa, a true haven for relaxation and rejuvenation, which houses a lantern-lit swimming pool and lounge, under the roof of a 260-year old wood and bamboo framework of a farmhouse that has been reconstructed in the hotel by Japanese craftsmen, some of whom are “Living National Treasures” of Japan. There are five treatment rooms, as well as a serene and calming space to relax before or after your treatments.

New York Boutique Hotels: The Lowell
Established in 1927, The Lowell is one of the last privately-owned hotels in the city. Now under the visionary leadership of Co-Owner and Design Director Dina De Luca Chartouni, The Lowell continues to be the New York hotel of choice for “in the know” world travelers, especially following a US$25 million transformation of the public areas overseen by Michael Smith and Mark Pinney.
The beautiful landmarked hotel on East 63rd Street, between Madison and Park Avenues, is a short stroll from New York City’s best shopping and just blocks from Central Park. Situated amongst the most exclusive addresses on the Upper East Side, The Lowell is the picture of classic New York elegance.
Sixty percent of the hotel is dedicated to spacious suites, furnished with the comforts of a stylish pied-à-terre; luxurious terraces, kitchens, wood-burning fireplaces, and concierge services to cater to your every whim.
The Lowell is home to a stylish restaurant, Marjorelle and Bar, Jacques both of which are inspired by the iconic Yves Saint Laurent gardens in Marrakech. Named after Jacques Majorelle, creator of Yves Saint Laurent’s iconic gardens in Marrakech. Majorelle was launched by renowned French restaurateur Charles Masson and features a gorgeous garden, which breathes life and light into the restaurant – an oasis in the city. The iconic Majorelle blue and vibrant yellows, exotic plants, palm fronds, orchids, fruit trees and illuminated fountains create a unique indoor-outdoor feel, and express Masson’s love of flowers and plants.
The menu features French classics with Mediterranean influences and include the likes of: foie gras with warm apple sauce, veal sweetbreads, mâche salad and truffles and tagine of baby vegetables with Midi herbs. Majorelle is also one of a select few restaurants in New York with its own brassiere, dedicated solely to preparing fine broths, sauces and soups, not to mention an oven reserved only for soufflés – promising to deliver the perfect dessert every time.
